I’m a member of SAOC(W),

Hi there
I’m a member of SAOC(W), but in Surrey, BC, so I have yet to put in an appearance at a meeting. Soon, though, I hope!

It has been some time since I have been in touch, except to be on the receiving end of your emails and newsletters, which I am always happy to see.

It has been a long time since I served in a submarine. In the meantime, among other things, I wrote a historical novel that was published in 2011. The story was based on my father’s time in the Canadian cavalry, and is called “Soldier of the Horse”. It was awarded an “IPPY”, a gold medal for wartime/historical fiction issued as part of the Independent Publisher Book Awards in the United States. “Soldier” was also longlisted for a ReLit Award. The ReLit Award was founded to acknowledge the best new work released by Canadian independent publishers.

My current project is a novel set in a fictional Canadian submarine during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The manuscript is not yet finished but, if all goes according to plan, it will be out in time for the 100th submarine anniversary.

In conjunction with writing novels, I am also blogging at, about submarine affairs as well as the Canadian cavalry in WW I. Is it possible to link my blog and/or website to your site? Needless to say, I’d be only too happy to have any feedback or comments from you and the membership generally.

If anyone would like to check out my first book, “Soldier of the Horse” is available as an ebook (through, Kobo, etc.) or as a hard copy in most bookstores. If anyone would like a signed copy, I’d be pleased to mail one. The cost is $20 including postage.

Thanks for your attention to this. I look forward to hearing from you regarding a link.

All the best
