Our Holly (Jim) Submitted by Buster Brown

by on Feb.24, 2013, under Message Posts

Our Holly (Jim) was a hard-working buff stoker who joined the boat in U.K. just after WUPS in Scotland. Remember him well because of his popularity….but then the sadness that unfolded due to his serious injuries as he was no longer capable to further serve in the navy, let alone in submarines. He was thought and talked about for ages as I and many others still do to this day I’m sure. A terrible fate as he always had a smile on his face. We really missed him…..3-badged Killick Billy Layden was his prime Sea-Dad.

With that, I suggest that Jim’s brother might run some names by him that just might jog his memory.

Nigel Frawley, Jerry Conway, Sam Jennings, Paul Renner, Harvey Waddell, Don Hood, George Pembroke, Lloyd Blagdon, Whacker Payne, Charlie Orr, Davie Brannen, Gus Gardner, Tommy Turtle, Terry Wyss, ROSS WEBB, Pig Pen Cameron, Tony O’Hara. the Beast, Tony Anthony, Frank Chambers, Moe Ferguson, Frank Kramer, Freddie Childs, John Hughes, Al Whelan, Andy Lovasi, Craig Harris, Danny Kaye, Charlie Hillier, Cliff Montgomery, Bill Buckley, Bob Churcher, Griffy Gnu,  Tom McVarnock, Jerry Sigrist, Pierre Doutre, Sandy Sadler, Stevie Higdon………

and yours truly,

Buster Brown

(hope this helps)

I remember Jim very well. We met at Sub school and developed a friendship which we continued through until his accident. Your letter brings back a lot of good memories. I have a few pictures which you may not have and attached to this e-mail.

Jim and I use to hang with a crowd from French Village just prior to St. Margarete’s Bay. The night of the accident is still very real in my mind. I was supposed to have joined him that night but at the last minute reneged.
Feel free to communicate with me and bring me up to speed on how Jim is doing.
